Slashdot, css style
I’ve just popped over to Slashdot and noticed that they’ve moved over to the new css format that resulted from their restyling competition.
I have to say that I really like it. Yes I know, it is exactly the same as the old style but hey why change something if it’s established, heck it’s almost a trademark for slashdot. We could all describe the style and layout to anyone without a seconds thought.
The fact that slashdot is still going strong is something that pleases me a lot, especially when it is up against the digg’s and newsvines and all their high tech wizardry. With Slashdot’s hand picked, quality assured posts you at least know you’re not going to have to wade through a page of manure before finding something interesting/intellectual and fascinating to read.

I followed the restyling competion, and I do like the results.
There’s definitely still a place for Slashdot in the world. digg and Reddit are the places I’d go for really up-to-date links, but Slashdot at a comment threshold of 5 often has some brilliant posts. It’s sort of becoming my equivalent of reading the Sunday Papers

We’re running a poll for Slashdot’s new CSS at Seen on Slash. So far the majority seem to like it, but not love it.

I do like it but of course there will always be a few tweaks to keep the majority happy.
It’s is good that /. has moved forward (even if it is only styling), but it does prove the point that it’s the content that makes a site and not just what it looks like.
The site could be styled black on white Courier and I’d still read it !
