Cold Calls
I have a deep hatred of cold calling. We suffered a lot from cold calls and fax calls at our previous home. Constant calls through out the night and absolutely no way of stopping them, we tried all of the preference services but to no avail.
After moving home and phone numbers I had high hopes that the calls would cease. No such luck…
This morning we had a missed call, so I did the 1471 and came back with 0018007018418. At first glance with the US dialing code, I certainly wasn’t going to call them back. A quick google and I stumbled across whocalled.us. A site that has a vast repository of cold call numbers. A quick search there and I found the culprit 0018007018418.
Seems they’re cold calling worldwide, scary stuff. From the reports they also seem to be one of those quite hostile setups. I do hope I don’t get the 18 or so calls mentioned in the comments.
Be warned everyone!

In my experience TPS cuts out most of the calls but not the international ones - they aren’t covered by the law of course.
When I do get the odd one from a UK company, I always tell them I’m registered for TPS and they shouldn’t be calling. That usually ends the call quickly. Callcentres are supposed to update their systems regularly with new lists of TPS registrants but they are allowed a 90-day grace period in which to do this, and anyway mistakes can happen. The moral being, TPS isn’t perfect but it’s still worth it. and you should always remind people who call you that they aren’t allowed to.
