Divide by zero - solved?

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Beeb is reporting that 1200-year-old problem is ‘easy’ and has been solved.

Computers simply cannot divide by zero. Try it on your calculator and you’ll get an error message.

But Dr Anderson has come up with a theory that proposes a new number - ‘nullity’ - which sits outside the conventional number line (stretching from negative infinity, through zero, to positive infinity).

I’m intrigued, it would certainly making coding a lot simpler. But I guess it’ll take a few generations of CPUs before this becomes the standard.

p.s.

I really want to watch the videos supplied with the story but the still insists on doing its streaming with realplayer, why? It’s a piece of crap, I hate installing it, adverts everywhere. Please , just host wmv, or mpg, or avi or anything!

Filming resumes on Top Gear show

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Filming resumes on Top Gear show.

Great ! It does stipulate that the show may not be broadcast even if they record it. seems happy that it’s up and running again though.

Why do people want to cancel the show, because someone was hurt? bloody HSE wrapping everyone in cotton wool. If no one takes any chances in this life what is the point of being alive. If some homo-sapien had decided millions of years ago to not venture from his warm cave because it was ‘a bit scary out there’ we might not even be here.

Take some risks !

Top Gear Winter Olympics

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

My all time favourite show Top Gear is back on Sunday for a Winter Olympics Special.

The Top Gear team hit Norway and have a go at Olympic events, but with . In a world first, they fire a rocket powered Mini off a ski jump. Then Jeremy and James tackle the Biathlon with the latest 4×4s, Richard stages a game of car ice hockey, and the new Jaguar XK races a speed skater.

Can’t wait, I hate the off season when there’s nothing cool and funny to watch on a sunday.

Roll on the new series..
