Damn it!

My broadband is playing up

Been chasing support all day, my broadband has been throttled back to 500kbps. Seems there must have been some noise on the line yesterday and the automated system that judges the best speed for the line has decided that the line is just so bad that it’s dropped it right down from my normal average of about 5792kbps.

It’s a sad state of affairs when my upstream speed is faster than my downstream!!

I’m just waiting on them to force a retest, they just better get it sorted, it’s like being back in the 90s!

My broadband went off this morning so I called the support guys and they said BT had started the regrade on my line.

It’s back up again now (as I’m doing a post) but i’m still on 2mb atm. The support guys said it would take about 10 days while the BT engineers work out the max bandwidth for my line (between 5mb - 8mb), during that time the bandwidth will fluctuate then they will work out the best settings and it’ll get fixed at that point.

I hope I can get the full 8mb, being on 20:1 contention is good too and should probably increase the possibility that I get a good chunk of what bandwidth is available.

I’m getting a broadband regrade, 8Mb downstream and 832Kb upstream.

The faster upstream will be a lifesaver for getting stuff back on to the servers, it’s been a pain to date with 25k upstream.
