Microsoft at it’s finest!

Monday, November 27th, 2006

So i’m spending a lot of time recently trying to get to do something useful, difficult, Yes.

I simply want to print emails without the header information, Subject, To, etc. A quick google brings up this gem of productivity wisdom.

How to Hide or remove e-mail message headers - Outlook - Microsoft Office Online

Remove headers when printing e-mail messages

provides several ways to print individual messages without headers. You can:

* Copy the body of the message into a blank Word, WordPad, or Notepad file, and then print it from there. (I assume you know how to do this, so while I provide steps for the other two options below, I don’t provide steps for this one.)

[….]

Seriously!

Microsoft Live Labs: Photosynth

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

I hardly ever get excited about a product but i’ve startled myself by how interested I am in Microsoft Live Labs: Photosynth.

Microsoft Live Labs: Photosynth

The cleverly connects photos by image content and displays them in a 3D environment allowing you to navigate around the set. The video demo looks quite exciting and could possibly be a Google Earth/Picasa killer. I have a definite worry about the spec of machine required to run the thing, I’ve also a suspicion that its likely to be a Vista based app. I’ve already read somewhere online that 2Gb of memory is the recommended minimum for Vista!

Covert Browser Wars

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

On booting this morning, had the windows upate icon appear. A quick click to see what this mornings upgrade is…

IE Upgrade

Sly buggers! Now that’s a clever way to push Firefox aside! The war is getting underhand!

really has to keep up in this respect, has handed itself this great delivery channel for just about all of it’s products!

I’m quite surprised that they have changed this into a channel for delivering paid content to the desktop. ‘Vista upgrade’ click to enter your card details and upgrade!

(Just incase you’re wondering… I unticked the box :) )

Internet Explorer 7 out in the wild

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Yesterday released Internet Explorer 7.

I suppose this means I’ll have to download, install and then spend a good few days making alterations to the stylesheets on all of my sites at work!

argh!

Looking at the gumph on the site, it just seems all so old hat now, all of these features have been in for years. The only thing it’s got going for it in my opinion is the hope that css works correctly and yet that isn’t going to make a great difference to most of us until everyone who still uses decide to upgrade. How long will that be? Some people still use 5!

Windows XP EULA in Plain English

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

Have you ever read a Windows License Agreement? No… Me neither. Some bod over at Linux Advocates has delved through the jargon and stripped out the Windows XP EULA in Plain English.

It’s an interesting read and to my mind not totally unexpected, essentially covering their own backs and putting the responsibilities on to the consumer.

A few corkers…

You agree that at any time, and at the request of “content providers may disable certain features on your computer, such as the ability to play your music or movie files.

You agree that can automatically and without your consent put new on your computer.

will not be liable for any damages caused by viruses, even if those viruses are the result of security problems in Windows XP Home.

This one is the best, I mean why even have an “agreement”

is not liable even if they break the terms of this agreement.
