Internet Explorer 7 out in the wild

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Yesterday released Internet Explorer 7.

I suppose this means I’ll have to download, install and then spend a good few days making alterations to the stylesheets on all of my sites at work!

argh!

Looking at the gumph on the site, it just seems all so old hat now, all of these features have been in for years. The only thing it’s got going for it in my opinion is the hope that css works correctly and yet that isn’t going to make a great difference to most of us until everyone who still uses decide to upgrade. How long will that be? Some people still use 5!

Mozilla Firefox 2 Beta 2

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Roll up, Roll up Mozilla Firefox 2 Beta 2 is out and about.

Update: It looks pretty cool, running nicely and has imported all my bookmarks and history, etc. I think i’ll give it a whirl and see how long I can last. Maybe I can pass some useful info to the developers if I can make the thing fall over :)

Amazon Ajax Book Reader

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Take a peek at the new ajaxified Amazon Book Reader, it’s a mightly beautifully looking bit of code. I really wish I could something like this up and running for the backoffice of our site at work, it would surely make some tasks a hell of a lot easier.

Samba PDC

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

I’m just in the process of ripping out a Windows Server 2003 PDC that we’ve inherited. Frankly it’s a bloody nightmare to manage. Whoever set it up had obviously just been on some kind of MS course and had decided to implement every Active Directory principle they’d read about. You get the picture.

So i’m rolling Samba into play to take over the role of PDC, DHCP, Print server and Storage.

The biggy has been trying to replicate the LDAP and Policies. After a bit of googling I came across a few useful links I thought I’d blog just incase someone else has been scratching their head.
